Welcome to the English pages of the Department of British and North American Studies. We study and teach the literature, culture, and language of English-speaking countries across the globe. The department is subdivided into four research/teaching areas: English linguistics, Anglophone Literature and Culture, English language , and Didactics of English. We currently offer B.A. programmes in English (one other subject needed) as well as the teaching degree (Lehramt) for English at secondary schools, and we participate in interdisciplinary M.A. programmes. The department's students are actively involved in various extracurricular activities and the department is less anonymous and much more welcoming than at larger universities. We place a high value on international mobility of both students and staff and maintain international contacts across the world. Students and staff also benefit from Greifswald's proximity to the sea and, more importantly, to Hamburg and Berlin.
