Chair of Anglophone Literature and Culture
The Chair covers all areas of Anglophone literature and culture. Teaching and research cover both literary and cultural studies.
Whilst literary studies deal primarily with the analysis of written texts, which were or are at some point considered to be “literary”, cultural studies expands the scope to all kinds of cultural media.
Both areas work cross medially and look at both printed texts, as well as films and television programmes, comics, computer games, digital forms of communication such as Twitter and facebook and oral communication.
Both focus points therefore include:
- British literature and culture from the early modern period to present
- North-American literature and culture from the start of European settlement to present, including Canadian literature and culture
- Anglophone literature and culture from outside the UK and North America, e.g. from India or Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand, Africa or the Caribbean
