Viele pädagogische Fachkräfte haben den Wunsch queere, lesbische, schwule, bi, trans*, inter*, nicht-binäre Schüler_innen zu unterstützen und zu begleiten – andererseits fehlen leider oft das Wissen und die Handlungsstrategien, um den Bedarfen von queeren Schüler_innen gerecht zu werden. Ein besonderes Augenmerk werden wir auf tin* (trans*, inter* und nicht-binäre) Schüler_innen legen. Gemeinsam wollen wir in diesem Workshop Strategien für eine vielfaltsinklusivere Schulstruktur erarbeiten, Rollenbilder hinterfragen, Begrifflichkeiten klären und einen selbstbestimmteren und gleichberechtigteren Schulalltag für queere Schüler_innen ermöglichen. Zudem wird eine rechtliche Grundlage für die Begleitung von (mehrfachdiskriminierten) tin* Schüler_innen erarbeitet.

Der Workshop wird ca. 4 Stunden dauern.

#taboos and controversial issues in ELT

Have you ever wondered

  • where taboos come from?
  • why taboos exist?
  • how to deal with taboo subjects in the foreign language classroom?

If the answer to one or all questions is ‘yes’, then this workshop is for you!

In the first part of the workshop, we will look into the nature and origins of taboos. We will then talk about why we should openly address taboo topics in the classroom. In the third part, we will bring together theory and practice by looking into specific examples of taboos and exploring - in a hands-on manner - some of the following questions:

  • Which taboos are out there?
  • How can we integrate taboos and controversial topics into existing curricular guidelines?
  • Which materials can we use to address taboos in the classroom?
  • Which approaches and methods are most suitable for addressing controversial issues with learners of all ages?

Participants should bring a taboo to the workshop.

It focuses on providing practical guidance in locating and applying openly available resources. You will leave the workshop with a set of online teaching materials and technologies.

If you participate in this online workshop, you may expect:

  • Describe the meaning of open educational resources
  • Identify resources that are openly licensed or in the public domain.
  • Explore the benefits and challenges of using and creating language OERs
  • Learn how to search, discover and evaluate language OERs
