Celebrating gender studies at the IfAA
Award for best student project
Dear students,
Last year, we invited external speakers from all over Europe for a lecture series on approaches to non-binary gender in English. This year, we would like to showcase and to celebrate the gender-oriented research that is carried out at our very own department – by you, the students.
Have you done a gender-oriented project in the past two years, or are you planning one for the upcoming exam season? Then submit your work for consideration! The entries will be reviewed by a jury; the three best submissions will be awarded cash prizes.
We will host an event to celebrate gender studies at the IfAA in early November. We hope to host this as a live celebration at the department, including an invited talk by a guest speaker as well as a social event.
What can I submit?
If you have done gender-oriented work in the past two years in the context of one of your classes at the Department of British and North American Studies, for example as a term paper, as a final thesis, as a project presentation or a similar format, you can submit it. All disciplines of our department – Cultural Studies, Linguistics, Literary Studies – are eligible. The format is flexible; a clear and tangible interrogation of gender aspects in your work are the most important criterion. You can submit graded or ungraded work; the grade is not an assessment criterion.
What is not eligible?
Work without a clear focus on gender; work conducted outside of the department (e.g. in your other subjects); work conducted after you graduated. If you submit a joint work, all coauthors must submit as a group.
How do I submit my work?
Alongside your completed work (term paper/presentation file/etc.), please also submit a 500-word abstract of your project. Please send your submission via email to elingua@uni-greifswald.de.The deadline is the end of day on September 30th, 2020.
What is the prize?
The entries will be reviewed by a jury consisting of department members. The three best entries will receive cash prizes of 250, 150 and 100 EUR. Funding is provided in collaboration with the Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für Genderforschung.
Your work will also be showcased at the event in November, and we will have the opportunity to mingle, connect, and celebrate Gender Studies at the Department for British and North American studies.

We look forward to your submissions!
